Carla Fuentes

Carla Fuentes
Maybe without being too aware of it, she is painting the aesthetic life of a whole generation of youths. Sketcher and illustrator, Carla Fuentes (Valencia, 1986) is filling up the walls of new art collectors with a precious ugliness through her acrylics, crayons and graphites.

If she was brought up naturally among the oils of Equipo Crónica or Eduardo Arroyo, the new generations are being brought up with her stark landscapes and imperfect portraits. Not in vain has she been one of the few Spanish artists to participate in the ‘Obey Icon Tour’ exhibition organized by the artist Shepard Fairey and is one of the youngest to appear in volume number 5 of  ‘Illustration Now’ of the Taschen publishing house, the bi-annual bible of the world of illustration.

A graduate of Fashion Design at EASD and in Fine Arts from the San Carlos University of Valencia, she has created visuals and covers for records for bands and solo artists such as Polock, Russian Red, Hewel, Ariel Pink haunted graffiti, Las Robertas, Little Wings, and La Habitación Roja, among others.

She has also worked for brands such as Nike, Kling, Pull&Bear, Gandía Blasco, Women’s secret, Bimba&Lola, Myspace, and, recently, for Absolut Mode Society. Sher works have been published in magazines such as Esquire, El País Semanal, Vanidad, Vogue, Naif Magazine, Union Mag (Japón), and Nylon, as well as in newspapers like Le Monde (Francia). We won't mention her blonde head of hair because the thing we like most about Carla is the way which she holds her pencil, scrutinizing her fist, as geniuses have always done.
